The Avocent® Universal Management Gateway is the first data center appliance that enables true, real-time, integrated monitoring, access and control across IT and facilities systems in the data center. The gateway makes it possible for data centers to execute a unified approach to infrastructure management resulting in greatly reduced cost and more efficient management and control.
The Universal Management Gateway appliance is the core component of the DCIM framework. It is the data collection engine as well as the access point that provides the closed loop control for Emerson Network Power’s DCIM solution, the Trellis™ platform.
The gateway combines the functions of KVM over IP, serial console over IP, rack PDU, SP and environmental management in a single chassis. When used in combination with DSView software, the solution provides remote access and control to any device that can be controlled by any of the consolidated functions.
Real-Time Control in the DCIM Environment
For DCIM, the Universal Management Gateway provides a path to the Trellis™ platform, Emerson Network Power’s revolutionary solution for DCIM. Deployed locally or remotely, the appliance enables both real-time data collection and closed-loop control over IT and facilities equipment, enabling dramatic reductions in manual labor and operating costs. Rather than integrate with other monitoring solutions, the Universal Management Gateway directly connects to a device in seconds, automatically collecting and aggregating historical data and allowing facilities equipment to be connected to the Trellis platform. The Trellis platform then intelligently interprets this data into meaningful status information that helps administrators make faster, smarter decisions.

Secure, Remote Access for IT Environments
The Universal Management Gateway combines the functions of KVM over IP, serial console over IP, rack PDU, embedded service processors and environment management in a single solution. When used in combination with the Avocent® DSView™ management software, data centers gain a total solution for secure access and control of any device with an interface. The appliance provides auto-sensor ports to support remote access via KVM or serial consoles, so that data centers can flexibly consolidate tools and standardize processes to operate with greater efficiency.
The Universal Management Gateway appliance is truly the next generation of data center technology, capable of simultaneously managing legacy KVM and embedded server technologies, while easing the transition to modern console management practices. The appliance is available in the following models:
