KVM Technical Bulletin:
Avocent AMX Cat5 KVM Switch Adds Audio Functionality

Avocent enhances its AMX Cat5 KVM switch product line by combining audio and serial functionality in addition to standard keyboard, video monitor, and mouse support for each user implementing new AMX5130 User Stations.
Existing AMX User Stations models include the AMX5110 and AMX5120.

The Avocent AMX5110 user station ships with an AMIQ-PS2 interface module to provide connection for one local computer. Additionally, the AMX5130 User Station will also provide a connection for a local PC; however, the AMIQ server interface module is not included.

The main difference between the AMX5120 and the AMX5110 is the built-in automatic skew compensation. The automatic skew feature for the AMX5120 compensates and automatically adjusts video quality to match varying Cat5, Cat5e and Cat6 cable types and lengths.

Audio and serial add-ons for the AMX Cat5 KVM solution operates by transmitting stereo sound from a target computer connected to the AMX matrix switch. Then, from any AMX matrix computer port, a Cat5 cable terminates its connection at the audio supported AMX5130 User Station.
In contrast, AMX users located at the AMX5130 user station sends mono microphone communications through the audio supported User Station and into the target host connected via any computer port on the Cat5 AMX matrix KVM switch. Mono microphone communications are sent from the AMX5130 User Station, though the AMX matrix switch, and finally to the remote computer via a Server Interface Module.
